|FMIPA UII Lecturer Got L’OREAL-UNESCO Fellowship 2011|

Dr. Is Fatimah, S.Si., M.Si., lecturer of chemical science, Faculty of Mathematic and Natural Science (FMIPA UII) has been awarded “L’Oreal Indonesia Fellowship for Women in Science which was conducted by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in cooperation with L’Oreal Indonesia. This program aimed to give fellowship toward female researchers in Indonesia.
The Director of L'Oreal Indonesia, Jean-Christophe Letellier led the award ceremony which held on Wednesday, October 19 at Grand Melia Hotel, Jakarta. In this occasion, Jean-Christophe Letellier announced that Dr. Is Fatimah was chosen as the winner on Material Sciences category.
Indonesian National Commission for UNESCO reported that there were 20 Indonesian female researchers, including 16 researchers concerning in Life Sciences and 6 researchers concerning in Material Sciences who have been received fellowship from L’Oreal-UNESCO For Woman in Science program on 2010. Their research gave significant effect toward the development of knowledge and research in Indonesia.
Furthermore, in this year, there were 80 participants who join this program by submitting research proposal. However, only 10 research proposals were accepted as the nominee in this program. The L’OREAL-UNESCO Fellowship program decided five winners on this program. Caecilia Hapsari Ceriaputri Sukowati PhD (Eijkman institute Jakarta) Dr Upik Andriani Miskad PhD SpPA (Medical Faculty of Hasanudin University Makassar) and Yosmina Helena Tapilatu SPi DEA DSc (Oseanografi LIPI, Ambon) got fellowship on Life Sciences category. While, Bidhari Pidhatika Ph.D (Industrial Department Indonesia) and Dr. Is Fatimah, S.Si., M.Si. (FMIPA UII Yogyakarta) got fellowship on Material Sciences category.
Regarding the success of Dr. Is Fatimah, S.Si., M.Si., UII Rector, Prof. Dr. Edy Suandi Hamid, M.Ec., expressed his gratitude. “This is very gracious achievement obtained from tight competition which was followed by many professionals’ researchers in Indonesia.” He said. Moreover, Prof. Dr. Edy Suandi Hamid, M.Ec., expected that this achievement has to encourage both UII lectures and students in conducting research and studies.
