FH UII Alumni Discussion Meeting: “Campus Academics Development” E-mail

ImageOn Sunday (01/22), many of UII faculty of law alumni attended the alumni meeting to discuss academics development strategy which was held at residency of Head of Constitutional Court, Prof. Mahfud MD, S.H, S.U situated at Widya Candra 3 Street, No. 7, Jakarta Pusat.

This event presented government officers, member of Indonesian House of Representatives, lawyers, and many others. They were Indonesian Vice Attorney General Dr. Darmono, SH. MM, Witness and Victims Protection Institutions Chairman, Abdul Haris Semendawai SH. LLM., Supreme Court Justice Dr. Salman Luthan, SH, MH., the General Secretary of Indonesian National Commission on Human Rights Dr. Masduki Ahmad, SH, MM., the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Vice Chairman Dr. Busyro Muqoddas, SH., M.Hum, Judicial Court Commissioner Taufiqurrahman Syahuri, Professional Lawyer, Henry Yoso Diningrat. The meeting was also attended by UII leaders including UII Rector, Prof. Dr. Edy Suandi Hamid, M.Ec, Vice Rector II Nandang Sutrisno, SH., MH., LLM, P.hD., and Dean of Faculty of Law Dr. Rusli Muhammad, SH. M.Hum.

Opening the first discussion session, UII Rector, Prof. Dr. Edy Suandi Hamid, M.Ec, mentioned the objective of this discussion was to obtain feedback for developing UII academics strategy, especially for UII Law Faculty. Thus, in the future, Islamic University of Indonesia can nurture prominent figures who contribute to develop our country. Moreover, the meeting also discussed UII plan to establish graduate program study of notary and Master’s Program Outside Area Requirement.

The discussion was continued by Dr. Darmono. In this occasion, he stated that the commitment to set up better condition upon higher education institutions environment could be carried out by noticing the weak point as well as by improving higher education institutions quality. Moreover, the next attempt to attain that improvement was by maintaining a commitment as UII alumni, keeping the good name of UII almamater, and conducting good manner among society.

“UII alumni have to be better since they posses add values which can be implemented by improving self competence, holding on to truth, and keeping away from breaking the law.” He stressed. According to Dr. Darmono, alumni success stories ought to be inspiration to UII students. Thus, it was expected the young generation will have fighting spirit to develop our country in the future.

Meanwhile, Busyro Muqoddas also urged alumni and UII leader to conduct evaluation and to think prospectively. Take an example, higher education institution, especially faculty of law have to concern on social-political injustice issues as well as to solve that problem by means of academic point of view. Moreover, he also stressed out the urgency for higher education institution to develop research study which concerns on social issues. Hence, UII Faculty of Law in the future has to establish research and study center.

In this occasion, Abdul Haris Semendawai, mentioned that nowadays, many students are not interested to join leadership activity. For this reason, higher education institution by means of student organization has to create better academics condition. By joining student organization, students could advance their skill and competence. “Student must be encouraged to be aware and understand their society, not just take something for granted. In addition, they must be able think critical.” He added.
