UII Prioritize the Development of Student Potential E-mail

ImageThere are several challenges that exist along with the development process of Islamic University of Indonesia as the oldest university in Indonesia. However, by implementing good management, UII has successfully encountered any problems and challenges. Moreover, for over 68 Years, UII alumni delivered great contribution in maintaining UII existence, so that UII is becoming prominent university in Indonesia. This statement was revealed by UII Rector, Prof Dr Edy Suandi Hamid, MEc in his opening speech after welcoming guest from Muhammadiyah University of Tapanuli Selatan. This meeting was conducted at Meeting room, 4th floor, ‘GBPH Prabuningrat’ Rectorate Building UII.

A visit from Muhammadiyah University of Tapanuli Selatan (UMTS), Padangsidimpuan, North Sumatera was held on Friday (01/27). The delegation of UMTS were UMTS Vice Rector III Drs. Lazuardi, MAg., Drs Alinurdin Siregar, MA (UMTS Vice Dean of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education), Mulyadi Hermanto, MA (UMTS Vice Dean of Faculty of Islamic Education), Sahril Lubis, SH MH (UMTS Vice Dean III of Law Faculty), M Yunas, SPt (Head of Department of Animal Husbandry), H. Ismail Fahmi, MSi (UMTS Vice Dean of Faculty of Social and Political Science), M Towil Makrof, SPd (Head of Student Affair Department) and Ahmad Rasoki, SH (Head of Student Affair Division).  Also attended in this event were UII Vice Rector III, Ir Bachnas, MSc, Director of UII Student Affair Department, Drs. Af. Djunaidi, M.Ag, and Head of UII Division of Personality, Dian Sari Utami, S.Psi, MA.

“The aim of this visit is intended to have comparative study for student affair. We admit that our university has not yet been able to encourage student in conducting student creativity program (PKM). In addition, we are also interesting for knowing further about UII alumni association (IKA). In the future, we expect to establish the alumni association at Muhammadiyah University of Tapanuli Selatan.” Drs. Lazuardi, MAg said.

Patterns of Student Development

In fostering students’ spiritual development, there are several religious training programs which must be accomplished by UII freshmen.  In the first year, freshmen have to take Baca Tulis Alqur`an (Qur’an Learning) and Orientasi Dasar Islam (Basics Islamic Orientation Course). “This program aimed to nurture student to able in reading Quran as well as in writing Arabic.” Ir Bachnas said.

To continue students’ spiritual development program, UII conduct pesantrenisasi (Boarding school short course) and Latihan Kepemimpinan Islam Dasar (Islamic Leadership Training). “There were several material delivered in this training which concerns on Organizational management. Through this training program, UII students are expected to actively participate in Islamic student organization at UII.” Ir Bachnas added. In addition, UII students must take pesantrenisasi (Boarding school short course) again as the basic requirement in conducting Kuliah Kerja Nyata (Field Work Experience).

There are several materials delivered in Basics Islamic Orientation Course such as Aqidah, Ibadah, and Akhlaq. Meanwhile, pesantrenisasi (Boarding school short course) aimed to teach students about Management of Zakah, Funeral Prayer, Calculate the Qibla Direction, and others.
