Indonesia faces numerous natural disasters which tend to increase in recent years. For this reasons, Inter Islamic Universities Cooperation (BKS-PTIS) have to concern with this issues. Thus, this institution is expected to deliver its contribution by providing disaster expert to take a more proactive action to deal with natural disaster.

This statement was revealed by UII Vice Rector I, Nandang Sutrisno, S.H, LLM M.Hum Ph.D on Tuesday (02/21) while delivering his welcoming speech on National Disaster Seminar and Workshop. The seminar and workshop, titled “Integrasi Aspek Kebencanaan Dalam Materi Pembelajaran Pada Perguruan Tinggi Islam Swasta di Indonesia” (Integrating Disaster Aspect into Educational Material of Indonesian Private Islamic Universities) was hosted by Inter Islamic Universities Cooperation (BKS-PTIS) along with Islamic University of Indonesia (UII).

“One of important point to deal with natural disaster in Indonesia is to integrate disaster prevention and disaster management aspects into higher education curriculum, particularly into curriculum of private Islamic universities in Indonesia.” Nandang Sutrisno emphasized

“On behalf Islamic University of Indonesia, I extend my gratitude to Inter Islamic Universities Cooperation for conducting this seminar and workshop. I also expect that the outcomes of the seminar can promote real contribution to the Nation.” Nandang said at the end of his speech.

Attended by UII Vice Rector III Ir Bachnas, MSc and Vice Rector I of Soedirman University, Prof. Dr. Mas Yedi Sumaryadi, this seminar presented several speaker, they were; Rector of  Baiturrahmah University (UNBRAH) West Sumatra, Prof. Ir. Firdaus Rivai, M.Sc, Lecturer of Muhammadiyah University of North Sumatra (UMSU)Ade Faisal, ST, MSc, PhD, and Lecturer of UII Faculty of Civil Engineering and Planning, Prof Widodo, MSCE PhD.

“Our country is intimately familiar with natural disaster or environmental disaster caused by human. Alas, those natural disasters are neglected by our society. They seemed to lose their awareness on environmental disaster.” Stated by Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, MAP in his speech.

According to him, numerous of environmental disasters including flood, earthquake, volcano eruption, etc, are caused by human activity. “Quran mention humans cause a lot more damage to the environment than anything natural.” explained by Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, MAP who is also University of Muhammadiyah Malang Rector.

In preventing natural disaster, his side initiated disaster management which ensure preparedness and prevention activities in anticipating natural disaster. Moreover, He expected the outcome of this seminar can deliver recommendation such as by conducting disaster management to prevent natural disaster.

This National Disaster Seminar and Workshop was also participated by lecturers and graduate students from disaster management program, universities leaders’ government officials, and disaster practitioners.
