As a commitment to improve the education in society, Lembaga Amil Zakat dan Infak Shadaqah Universitas Islam Indonesia (LAZIS UII) offered scholarship to 263 outstanding students including 83 elementary school students, 77 junior high school students, and 103 high school students. Targeted at students from low-income families, LAZIS UII provided scholarship of Rp. 112.500.000,00 which can be divided into three categories; Elementary school scholarship (Rp. 21.000.000,00), junior high school scholarship (Rp. 31.000.000,00), and high school scholarship (Rp. 60.500.000,00). The scholarships were symbolically given by UII Vice Rector III, Ir. Bachnas, M.Sc. accompanied by Director of Lazis UII, Ir. Munadzir, MS., on Sunday (02/26) at UII Cik Di Tiro Campus, Yogyakarta.

In his opening remark, Ir. Munadzir stated LAZIS UII grant scholarships to students from poor economics background. These scholarships are typically awarded for outstanding students who have academic achievement and motivation to continue their studies. “Unfortunately, many students who have academic achievement experience difficulty with the school fee to pursue the higher education.” He uttered.

Since it began on 2004, the scholarship program has operated without selection process. Meanwhile, started on 2007 until now, LAZIS conducted scholarship selection process. The applicants must meet the scholarship requirements including they must earn 7,3 grade point average (GPA) on 3 semesters and should memorize Juz’amma.

In this opportunity, Ir. Bachnas, M.Sc. highly appreciated this scholarship program; He also urged that it is essential to help students from low-economics background by encouraging them to pursue higher education and teaching them self discipline, and social awareness.

Attending in this event were the grantees and their parents. This event was involved parenting talk show featuring Dra. Anis Farichatin, M.Pd. as the speaker.
