UII Students Urged Stay Calm during Fuel-Price Hike Protest: Rector E-mail

ImageUniversity students, as the agent of change, have to engage in expressing people’s aspiration and desire. Addressing the fuel-price hike, students are forced to give quick response. However, in this case, Islamic University of Indonesia students are strongly urged to remain polite during their counter-protest. That is statement revealed by UII Rector, Prof. Dr. H. Edi Suandi Hamid, MEc when met the member of student executive board (LEM UII) on Monday (3/19). Also attending in this occasion were UII Vice Rector III, Ir. Bachnas MSc, and Director of DPBMKM (Directorate of Talents, Interests, and Student Welfare), Drs. AF. Djunaedi, MAg.

Prof. Edy highly encouraged UII students to take active role in countering the issues of fuel-price hike in Indonesia. Besides, he also asked UII student to always maintain and uphold alma mater’s good name and UII’s vision.

“We still allow students to express their aspiration. But, students also urged giving the best statement to support their argument while addressing the issues of increasing fuel prices. Please try to avoid anarchist demonstrations.” Prof. Edy emphasized.  

Located at Sederhana Restaurant, Both sides, UII leaders and also member of LEM UII also discussed about the preparation of student government election which will be held soon at Islamic University of Indonesia.

“As long as we know that, UII student executive board has made serious effort in fostering Islamic values at Islamic University of Indonesia toward World Class University.” Rector uttered. In the end of his statement, Rector expected that the performance of LEM UII remain some great things to be proud of.
