|FIAI UII Launches BMT At-Ta'awun|

Faculty of Islamic Studies (FIAI) UII officially launched Baitul Mal wa Tamwil (BMT) At-Ta'awun on Tuesday (8/5) at KH. Wahid Hasyim building, UII main campus. Previously, BMT as an Islamic financial service (KJKS) was initially established as staff cooperative at FIAI.
Head of BMT At-Ta'awun, Drs. H. Muzhoffar Akhwan, MA said that existence of staff cooperation has previously provided any help to overcome the financial problems of its members. Therefore, there was a strong desire to improve the management of the cooperative becoming Sharia financial service.
According to him, this BMT which was inaugurated by UII Rector, Prof. Dr. Edy Suandi Hamid, M.Ec has been adapted with current regulations. The entire process of establishment has been monitored by Department of Industry, Trade, and Cooperatives (Disperindag) at Sleman District, Yogyakarta. This serious effort was done to ensure the fulfillment of the terms and conditions of cooperative’s establishment for providing security of its members.
He also added that membership of BMT is open not only to staff of FIAI but also to UII community as well as wider community. Funds collected from member’s savings and deposits would be distributed as financing practices.
Dean of FIAI, Dr. Drs. Dadan Muttaqien, SH., M.Hum stated that the establishment of BMT At-Ta'awun FIAI was an attempt to build an Islamic economics system in our society. In addition, Faculty of Islamic Studies has Islamic Economic Studies Program, so that the existence of Sharia cooperative becomes a necessity. According to him, BMT would be a laboratory for student to support their academic activities. The management of BMT it self would be handled by students under the guidance of Islamic economics lecturer and manager of BMT.
Meanwhile, UII Rector, Prof. Dr. Edy Suandi Hamid, M.Ec, expected this sharia financial service provide should be socially oriented and independent. “Also, the existence of Sharia financial services can promote Islamic values as the basis of the Islamic financial business" he added
