UII Intensifying IR New Department Establishment E-mail

ImageThe trend of the globalization has demanded people and such country to respond global issues and problems in many countries. In order to accommodate people’s demand in the field of international relations study to analyze global issues and formulate a country’s foreign policy, Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) as one of leading universities in Indonesia initiated to establish new department of International relations (IR) under Faculty of Psychology and Socio Cultural Sciences.


 

This brief explanation was revealed by UII Vice Rector I for Academic Affairs, Nandang Sutrisno, S.H LLM, M.Hum, Ph.D when welcoming the representatives of Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Flinders University Australia on Thursday (6/28) at meeting room, 3rd floor ‘GBPH Prabuningrat’ Rectorate Building UII. The delegates including Dean of Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Prof.Malcolm Cook, Asian Studies Lecturer Dr. Priyambudi Sulistiyanto, and Staff of International Office Wiliyhana Siska were invited by Faculty of Psychology and Socio Culture Sciences to have a discussion on initial collaboration between two universities.

On this occasion, Vice Rector I revealed that currently the department is preparing its initial commencement in 2013 and developing IR curriculum that focus of study is on ASEAN studies and Islamic Political Thought in Southeast Asia. Implementing IR vision, as the center of International Relations education and research in Southeast Asia, UII projected to conduct collaboration along with partner institutions abroad.

"UII has been establishing strategic partnership program with foreign universities in Asia and Australia through student and lecturer exchange, double degree program, Fastrack program, research collaboration, joint international events." He explained.

Meanwhile, Prof. Malcolm welcomed the offer to conduct collaboration and expected that the collaboration can be realized immediately. He also highly appreciated the purpose of UII to develop ASEAN Studies and Islamic Political Thought in Southeast Asian Nations in the field of International Relations.

"IR at Flinders University has many of mainstream studies. We invite team of IR department establishment from UII to visit Flinders University to have comparative study for developing IR curriculum." He uttered
In addition, Dr. Priyambudi, suggested IR department UII to provide foreign language such as Thai or Tagalog to create knowledgeable, skilled, and professional graduates who has a strong international network . "In addition to English, students also should be required to learn a foreign language in the ASEAN region such as Thai or Tagalog language.” He said

Also attending in this event were UII Vice Rector III, Ir.
