| Kahar Mudzakkir Deserves Title of National Hero |

Dr. HC A.M. Fatwa in his speech stated that Prof. KH. Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir has delivered great merit for Indonesia even since he was a student. A.M. Fatwa firstly met Prof. KH. Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir at 50th anniversary of Muhammadiyah Congress. He mentioned that Prof. KH. Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir should be positioned equal with Dr. Sukiman Wirjosandjojo who has struggled to obtain Netherlands’ recognition of Indonesia’s independence. Historically, Prof. KH. Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir has made serious effort to attain recognition of Indonesia’s independence from Middle East country. The gait of Prof. KH. Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir in the Middle East made him becoming Secretary of Islamic Congress Jerusalem. According to AM Fatwa, Prof. KH. Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir has delivered significant contribution in arranging 1945 Constitution Draft and struggling for Islamic Value as the integral part of Indonesia nation and state. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Moh. Mahfudz MD who also served as Chairman of Indonesian Constitutional Court mentioned that the figure leader like Prof. KH. Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir deserves title as national hero considering his contributions to Indonesia such as struggling to obtain recognition of Indonesia’s independence from Middle East country, contributing to arrange Indonesian state’s foundation, and developing education in Indonesia.
Furthermore, Mahfudz explained that his analysis why Prof. KH. Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir has not received yet the recognition as National Hero from our nations. This fact can not be separated from systematic efforts to reduce the role of Islamic leaders in Indonesia's independence that in line with the content of book entitled "The Struggle of Islam in Modern Indonesia" written by B.J. Boland. This book reveals a conspiracy to reduce Muslim’s role in proclaiming Indonesia’s independence. It can be noted from the absence of Islamic figure’s speech in BPUPKI’s document (Dokuritzu Zyumbi Tyoosakai). This document did not assert speech text from Islamic leaders, including Prof. KH. Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir. The document only stated speech text from Mr. Muh. Yamin, Dr. Soepomo, and Ir. Sukarno. On the other hand, Prof. Ahmad Shafi Ma'arif confirmed that KH. Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir deserve title of National Hero. Prof. KH. Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir has established Badan Oentoek Menyelidiki Oesaha2 Persiapan Kemerdekaan (BOEMOEPK) / BPUPK (Badan Penyelidik Usaha-Usaha Persiapan Kemerdekaan). Prof. KH. Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir as the representation from Islamic leader played political role in proclaiming Indonesia’s Indonesia. Prof.Edy Suandi Hamid, M.Ec., as the last speaker revealed that Prof. KH. Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir has delivered significant role in developing Islamic thought and education in Indonesia. He has established Islamic High School (STI). In his period, Prof. Kahar released two faculties at UII including Faculty of Religion UII that shifted into PTAIN (UIN Sunan Kalijaga) and Faculty of Education that transformed into Universitas Negeri Gadjah Mada (UNGM), then changed into IKIP Yogyakarta (UNY). Prof. KH. Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir has also contributed in establishing Muhammadiyah higher education institutions that spread throughout Indonesia and upholding Islamic value in education field in Indonesia. From this reason, Prof. KH. Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir deserves title of National Hero.
After discussion session, the seminar was followed by declaration of recommendation proposing Prof. KH. Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir as a National Hero that was delivered by UII Rector, Prof. Edy Suandi Hamid, M.Ec.

In conjunction with 69th UII anniversary, on Monday morning (7/9) UII organized national seminar entitled 'Prof. KH. Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir: Mutiara Nusantara yang Terlupakan'. Located at ‘Prof. KH. Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir Auditorium’, this seminar was attended by 250 participants including students, lecturers, teachers, government officials, and others. This seminar began with a keynote speech delivered by Dr. HC A.M. Fatwa and featured expert speakers including Prof. Dr. Moh. Mahfudz MD, Prof. Syafi'i Ma'arif, and Prof. Dr. Edy Suandi Hamid, M.Ec. In this event, Mayor of Yogyakarta, H. Haryadi Suyuti also delivered his opening remarks to officially open this seminar.
