Conserving Batik, Chemical Engineering UII Launches Fashion Design and Batik Mainstream Study E-mail

ImageAlong with the development and popularity of Batik clothing in Indonesia, Many entrepreneurs run Batik industry. Moreover, Batik is one of Indonesia’s cultural that gains UNESCO’s recognition. Unfortunately, the attempt to preserve Batik is not supported by qualified human resources who have professional skill and competence in Batik fashion design.

This statement was confirmed by Perdana Afif Luthfy, lecturer at Batik fashion design when delivers his presentation in front of the audience at launching of Centre for Fashion Design and Batik, Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Industrial Technology UII, on Thursday (9/13).

According to him, the establishment of Centre for Fashion Design and Batik is an attempt to strive the existence of Batik designs course in Yogyakarta. He added that 20 participants will attend the one year-course program to learn Batik fashion design provided by Centre for Fashion Design and Batik starting from October 2012.

"We set up integrated curriculum in order to nurture young practitioners with high competence which is in line with increased industrial demand.” He said

ImagePerdana added that the trainee will learn basic fashion knowledge or sewing knowledgebase using manual and machine. “They also will take internship program in garment industry. Moreover, in the end of the course term, trainee will have a fashion design examination to measure their competence”. He told

Meanwhile, Dean of Faculty of Industrial Technology, Ir. Gumbolo Hadi Susanto expected that the new mainstream study of Fashion Design and Batik will be the uniqueness of Faculty of Industrial Technology. Therefore, Faculty of Industrial Technology invites various including academic community, practitioners, associations, entrepreneurs and others to boost fashion design and Batik clothing industry.

This event also featured talk show about batik fashion design "The Role of Higher Education in the Development of Batik Fashion Design" and presented several speakers H. Afif Syakur, Asmanto Subagyo. M.Sc, Ir. Tuti Suryanto, and Dimas Prasetyo.
