UII Strengthens Global Outreach Through Academic Mission to Uzbekistan

Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) continues to enhance its internationalization strategy through a strategic academic mission to Uzbekistan, held from April 23 to 25, 2025. This official visit aimed to expand institutional partnerships and promote UII’s academic programs to potential collaborators and students in Central Asia, particularly in the cities of Tashkent and Samarkand.

With full support from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Tashkent, the UII delegation—comprising Dr. Bambang Suratno, Head of the Domestic Partnership Division at the Directorate of Partnerships/Office of International Affairs (DK/KUI) UII, and Mr. Muhammad Ferry Rizki, Domestic Partnership Officer at DK/KUI UII—engaged in a series of high-level meetings with leading academic institutions across Uzbekistan. This mission underscores UII’s firm commitment to fostering mutually beneficial international collaborations as part of its global strategic vision.

“During the visit, UII representatives held constructive meetings with several key institutions, including the National University of Uzbekistan (NUU), Tashkent State Technical University (TSTU), Tashkent State University of Economics (TSUE), International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan (IIAU), Madrasah Kukeldash, and Samarkand State University (SSU),” said Dr. Bambang Suratno.

The mission yielded several notable outcomes, including the dissemination of information about UII’s scholarship offerings, the Developing Country Partnership Scholarship (KNB), and the TIAS program to prospective partners and international students. It also involved the exploration of potential double degree programs in Management, Law, Chemistry, Pharmacy, and other relevant disciplines.

In addition, the visit promoted student and staff mobility programs such as summer schools and exchange initiatives. It also marked the initiation of joint research proposals and collaborations under the Erasmus+ framework. A final key achievement was the implementation of cultural and religious engagement initiatives that highlight the shared Islamic heritage between Indonesia and Uzbekistan.

“This series of engagements not only opened avenues for institutional cooperation but also demonstrated UII’s readiness to become a strategic academic partner in the region. Each meeting underscored the long-term potential for partnerships grounded in academic excellence, cultural alignment, and shared development objectives,” added the Head of the Domestic Partnership Division.

As a follow-up to the mission, a series of in-depth virtual discussions will be held between the respective universities, involving relevant faculties and academic programs directly.

Universitas Islam Indonesia extends its sincere appreciation to the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Tashkent for its support and facilitation throughout the mission. UII remains optimistic that the connections forged during this visit will evolve into impactful collaborations, enriching both institutions and supporting UII’s vision of becoming a world-class university rooted in Islamic values.
