UII’s Accounting Study Program Committed to Producing Internationally Qualified Graduates
Yogyakarta—Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) celebrated their 10-year cooperation anniversary at the Le Meridien Hotel in Jakarta on 7 September 2023.
Country Manager and Chief Representative for ACCA Indonesia, Julia Simatupang, said in her opening remarks that the celebration was held together with the 2023 ACCA Indonesia Reception event.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing between UII and ACCA marked both parties’ commitments to continue this productive partnership. UII Rector Prof. Fathul Wahid, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D. and ACCA Asia-Pacific Director Pulkit Abrol represented their respective institutions for the signing.
Also attending the event were some key ACCA figures, ACCA-approved employers, ACCA university partners, Indonesia Institute of Certified Public Accountants (IAPI) members, CFA Society Indonesia members, UII Faculty of Business and Economics Dean Johan Arifin, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., the management of UII’s Accounting Program Study and Major, ACCA class tutors, and ACCA class students and alumni.
In his remarks, Pulkit Abrol mentioned his admiration of the word “Nusantara”. In his view, the word reformulated his perspective in interpreting invaluable differences and strong networks that are hard to measure. Therefore, he said, ACCA would continue expanding not only its membership, but also its global partnership.
By 2023, ACCA has more than 750,000 members in more than 181 countries. Among these country members, Pulkit said Indonesia had a strategic position and was on track to become an economic superpower.
“Indonesia is an important market for ACCA in the Asia-Pacific region. This country has a rapid population growth and is on the verge of benefiting from the largest demographic dividend in the next 10 years,” Pulkit Abrol said.
Pulkit also mentioned that many young accountants would be entering the job market. ACCA is proud to say that these youths across Indonesia have chosen Universitas Islam Indonesia as the best place to prepare for a career as a professional accountant.
Echoing Pulkit Abrol, Julia Simatupang said that “At ACCA, we talk a lot about opportunities and our shared ambition to open more doors to better careers for the younger generation with a professional accounting degree.”
“Our friends and colleagues at Universitas Islam Indonesia have helped us to make this dream come true Indonesia,” she said.
Meanwhile, Yohannes Nugraha, ACCA Indonesia Member Panel Chair and CFO Indonesia at Kraft Heinz, highlighted the importance of the ACCA Indonesia Member Panel to navigate strategic developments in the world of professional accountants and identify challenges that may affect ACCA members, students and affiliates in Indonesia.
UII Secretary of Accounting Study Program — Undergraduate Program, Muamar Nur Kholid, S.E., M.Ak., Akt., said that the 10 years of the UII-ACCA cooperation have brought benefits to students and alumni during their studies at UII’s Accounting Study Program.
One of the main benefits is the exemption for UII students from the 12 ACCA modules for the Fundamental level. On top their bachelor’s degree in accounting, this makes graduates of UII’s Accounting Study Program obtain ACCA qualifications in the form of Diploma in Accounting, Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business, or a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University just by taking a maximum of three fundamental level module exams.
Apart from that, students can also sit in revision classes taught by international tutors and have the opportunity to connect with ACCA Approved Employers.
Furthermore, Muamar Nur Kholid said that UII’s Accounting Study Program offered its lecturers the Train the Trainer (TTT) program from ACCA to become ACCA class tutors. The UII Accounting Study Program’s true commitment in supporting this program is also shown by the scholarships offered to students that excel in ACCA classes. (VIP Magazine Vol 10)
