Global Recognition for Aspiring Professional Engineers

The Engineer Professional Study Program (PSPPI UII) is a study program under the Faculty of Industrial Technology which is implemented in collaboration with the Faculty of Civil Engineering & Planning. The establishment of the Engineer Professional Study Program of Universitas Islam Indonesia has received full support from stakeholders, such as the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII), alumni, and the industries with the signing of various cooperation agreements. Currently, PSPPI UII has received a Good rating accreditation status from the Independent Accreditation Institute of Engineering (LAM Teknik) based on the Decree No. 0368/SK/LAM Teknik/PB. PI/VII/2025.

PSPPI UII is designed to produce Professional Engineer graduates who are able to perform engineering practices independently or in teams by prioritizing professional ethics and Islamic values, being responsible, and having the qualifications recognized at the national and international levels. The graduate profile includes three main aspects stated in Law No. 11 of 2014, namely technical skills, managerial skills, and professional ethics. In addition, PSPPI UII is designed to have three aspects of excellence which include risk management, systematic problem solving, and universal Islamic religious values. Based on these three aspects of excellence, the students of PSPPI UII will receive special services in the form of:

  1. International certification in the field of systematic problem solving (TRIZ) in collaboration with the International TRIZ Association (MATRIZ)
  2. BNSP certification (national professional certification agency) in risk management and occupational health and safety (K3) in collaboration with professional certification institution (LSP UII)
  3. Structured studies of the implementation of religious values in engineering professionalism in collaboration with relevant study centers within UII and outside UII.

The Engineer Professional Study Program of Universitas Islam Indonesia develops an engineering learning model by strengthening the ability to achieve engineer competencies formulated by the Indonesian Engineers Association and the Communication Forum of Indonesian Engineer Professional Study Programs. The involvement of Professional Engineers from PII delivers real-world project cases as a learning opportunity for the students of PSPPI to prepare themselves to become competent and professional engineer candidates.

The graduates of Engineer Professional Study Program will receive an Engineer degree (Ir.) as the main requirement to become a member of the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII), obtain an Engineer Registration Certificate (STRI), and manage a Professional Engineer certificate. The Engineer degree will lead to broader career opportunities, especially in the field of engineering, considering that the number of professional engineers in Indonesia remains relatively low compared to other countries.

The number of engineers in Indonesia is currently below 3,000 people per one million of population, which is far below Vietnam with 9,000 engineers per one million of population or South Korea with 25,000 engineers per one million of population. Therefore, having an engineer degree is not only a necessity but also a great opportunity for young professionals to enhance their careers and contribution to the development of the country.

The Engineer Professional Study Program of Universitas Islam Indonesia has two programs:

  • Regular program, to be completed in 2 semesters
    • First Semester: Face-to-face lecture activities and tutorials
    • Second Semester: Engineering Practice

Recognition of Past Learning (RPL) program, to be completed in 1 semester
Recognition of the Learning Outcomes (CP) obtained by students from their formal or non-formal/informal education, and/or work experience in the field of engineering.

  1. New Student Admission Requirements
    • General Requirements
      1. Physically and spiritually healthy, free of drugs, psychotropics, and addictive substances;
      2. Applying for the engineer professional study program;
      3. Bachelor of engineering or applied degree in engineering or bachelor of engineering education who has experience in engineering or bachelor of science who has experience in engineering;
    • Special Requirements
      1. Requirements for Regular Learning Program
        • Bachelor of Engineering/Applied Degree in Engineering
        • Bachelor of Science (S.Si.) and Bachelor of Engineering Education (S.Pd.) with a minimum of 3 years of experience in engineering
      2. Requirements for Recognition of Past Learning (RPL) Program
        • Bachelor of Engineering/Applied Degree in Engineering with at least 2 years of experience in engineering
  2. Registration Procedures
    1. The prospective students complete the registration form at the following link: uii.id/PSPPI
    2. The administrator verifies the data to ensure that the prospective students meet the specified requirements.
    3. The administrator contacts the prospective students to pay the registration fee and complete the registration files.
    4. The study program will conduct a selection based on the submitted registration files.
    5. The announcement of selection results will be delivered to prospective students via email and WhatsApp.
    6. Lectures will begin according to the academic calendar of the Islamic University of Indonesia.

In general, the learning model in the Engineer Professional Study Program of UII adopts a scientific-practitioner model, which assumes that students are equipped with not only knowledge (educational element) but also direct practice in the field (exposure and evidence-based practice).

The method of knowledge provision in professional education is conducted through learning in the classroom and in industries which aims to strengthen students’ understanding and theoretical abilities. To gain real experiences in the field, the students are required to conduct field practice in the form of internship in a company with the guidance of an internal supervisor (lecturer) and an external supervisor (practitioner/field supervisor).

To facilitate practitioners who already have engineering experience, the Engineer Professional Study Program has a Recognition of Past Learning (RPL) program that allows the fulfillment of portfolio-based learning outcomes owned by the students.

The teaching staff in the Engineer Professional Study Program of UII consists of permanent lecturers of the study program and lecturers from industries.

There are 26 permanent lecturers of the study program, the majority of whom have doctoral degree (19 people) and master’s degree (7 people), and 5 of whom already have the academic rank of professor.

All the permanent lecturers already have a professional engineer certificate (8 Principal Professional Engineers – IPU and 18 Intermediate Professional Engineers – IPM). The lecturers from industries consist of lecturers and field supervisors who all have a professional engineer certificate with an IPM certificate.
