Master of Pharmacy

Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences
Master of Pharmacy Study Program

Summary of the Study Program

The Master of Pharmacy Study Program (PSFPM) of Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) is a study program established in 2021 based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 110/E/0/2021. The establishment of PSFPM UII is motivated by the high demand for pharmacy graduates with master’s competencies to become educators, researchers, policy makers in the government, and practitioners in health facilities or the pharmaceutical industry. The existence of PSFPM UII will also improve the quality and quantity of research results and outputs in the field of pharmacy and further increase the benefits for the broader community.

The education at PSFPM is designed to prepare master of pharmacy graduates who excel in the development of pharmaceutical preparations, pharmaceutical services, and education based on big data utilization that supports policy-making and improvement of service quality in health facilities. Global transformation in the era of Industry 4.0 and Society 5.0 poses challenges, including in the health sector, where big data utilization and the Internet of Things (IoT) have changed the healthcare system. Online patient data storage, disease projection, and treatment coverage or distribution are made possible through big data processing. Therefore, the role of pharmacists and researchers in the health sector may be reduced by innovative applications that will be immediately present in society. Such changes are anticipated by PSFPM UII by preparing graduates who can keep up with the times and are ready to contribute and provide benefits in line with the PRIME graduate profile (Practitioner, Researcher, and Life Long Learner, Islamic Behavior and International Orientation, Manager, and Entrepreneur Educator and Effective Communicator).

Concentrations

The concentrations at PSFPM UII are based on local genius as well as national and international demands. PSFPM has 2 majors: pharmaceutical science and clinical pharmacy.

  1. Pharmaceutical Science
The research focus with the featured topics for pharmaceutical science includes: 1) development of halal products, nanopharmaceuticals, and drug delivery systems based on prophetic medicine, natural ingredients, and advanced materials, 2) development of evidence-based natural ingredients as a herbal therapy for metabolic syndrome diseases, such as diabetes, cancer, and infectious diseases like malaria, and 3) development of pharmacogenomics and metabolomics research based on big data.
  2. Clinical Pharmacy
Focusing on the capability of pharmaceutical services in healthcare facilities and research in healthcare facilities, the featured research topics include 1) therapeutic optimization, 2) big data for pharmaceutical services, 3) development of laboratory research to provide the best recommendations for pharmaceutical services, 4) pharmacokinetics and pharmacogenomics for therapeutic optimization, and 5) pharmacoeconomics.

All the students of PSFPM in both Pharmaceutical Science and Clinical Pharmacy concentrations are also equipped with the following knowledge and skills:
    1. IoT and big data for health services are the main advantages, and
    2.
Pedagogy and curriculum development are the additional competencies

The knowledge and skills developed at PSFPM UII provide advantages and great opportunities for careers as a lecturer in universities, practitioner in health facilities, government, and industry, researcher in research institutions, and consultant and policymaker in the pharmaceutical sector.
