UII Welcomes Multi-Country MASUDEM Participants
Yogyakarta—Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) is collaborating with 10 partner institutions from Europe and Southeast Asia to push for the integration of sustainability into Master of Management programs.
As part of this endeavor, UII hosted the Master Studies in Sustainable Development and Management (MASUDEM) program from 12 to 15 September 2023. On the fourth day of this program, representatives from the partner institutions toured the UII campus located on Jl. Kaliurang KM. 14.5 in Sleman.
UII Rector Prof. Fathul Wahid, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D. received the program participants at the UII Prof. Dr. Sardjito Public Lecture Hall.
“Welcome to Universitas Islam Indonesia. We are now home to around 30,000 students coming from all parts of Indonesia and 23 other countries. One of our initiatives is internationalization,” he said beginning his remarks.
Prof. Fathul Wahid said that the collaboration with Erasmus+ MASUDEM was the ninth European Union-funded project at UII. “The project’s topic, sustainable development, is crucial and timely,” he said.
“I call on everyone here to disseminate this message. Not only to members of our institutions, but also to the public,” the rector added.
The rector also explained that UII had planned and implemented some of its sustainable development programs. “For example, digitalization. We reduced a lot of paper use here, revamped our business processes, and, using an app, I can now monitor how much paper each person uses in a certain period,” he said.
In addition, Prof. Fathul mentioned the campus’ sustainable efforts in developing alternative energy sources and beautifying the environment. “We built reservoirs behind and in front of our campus with support from the central government,” he said. “We also installed solar panels as an alternative energy source, and we maintain green plants around the campus.”
The UII rector called on participants to continue disseminating the urgency of sustainability. “Once again, we invite everyone to spread the message louder. Not only on paper, but also in reality. We also hope that what we are trying to do through this activity will be sustainable,” he said.
The program, organized jointly with Gadjah Mada University (UGM), consisted of a four-day series of activities, with the last day taking place at the UII Main Campus. Apart from each participating institution’s presentation on the progress of the sustainability-based curriculum development and the strategies for its implementation, participants also toured the UII Central Library, which houses the UII Museum and the Kimpulan Temple.
Also taking part in the program were Project Coordinator Erasmus+ MASUDEM Prof. Anetta Caplanova, Ph.D., UII’s Vice Rector for Partnership & Entrepreneurship, Wiryono Raharjo, Ph.D., and representatives from partners in the consortium. (VIP Magazine Vol 10)
