|UII Softball Team Wins National Championship|

Unisi Softball Team from Universitas Islam Indonesia successfully achieved first winner in the national softball championship held at UGM softball field on 11-18 May 2013.
At least 12 teams from various notable universities across Indonesia were participated during the championship. They are UGM Yogyakarta, UPI Bandung, UNHAS Makassar, UNIBRAW Malang, and UNS Surakarta. In the final match, Unisi team successfully beat UPI Bandung with score 17-7.
Unisi team coach Very told that his team winning is quite unpredicted since his team is the youngest among other participants. “Although we only have two months to prepared the team, we still have unrivalled spirit when face crucial match”, he added.
Very admitted that it is not easy to build team compactness when the team only established in a short time. While other teams have significant amount of time to build that since they are considered long established team. “Team compactness is important to encourage moral during match, we build that not only during practice but also during daily interaction with team members”, he added. He also told that they have similar hobby since senior high school, playing softball which help to build team compactness.
In the future, Unisi team will target to participate in other prestigious achievement not only in national level but also in international level. A few moments ago, Unisi team was invited to participate in ASEAN Students Softball Championship which will be held in Malaysia.
They also hoped that UII will provide support for them in order to establish more formal organization called Student Activity Unit (UKM). “One of our biggest aim is to establish UKM in the near future since it will boost our motivation to carved more prestigious achievement”, he concluded.
Meanwhile, Vice Rector III UII, Ir. Bachnas, M.Sc., said UII always encourages team softball Unisi to quickly establish foundation to become UKM so it will officially recognized by universities and included in Students Development Pattern (Polbangmawa). Through this mechanism, the fund for UKM will be distributed more easily.
He continued that UII always implements programs to develop student’s talent in sport, art, and organization. But he noted that academic affair should be prioritized. “We always support talent development as well as academic affairs”, he stated.
Ir. Bachnas advised that students should develop their potency in order to carve achievement. It will increase UII proudness and almamater reputation in society. “UII has prepared substantial amount of reward for good achievement in regional, national, and international level according to its field”, he explained.
